Leader Resources
The basic official resources for this calling include:
Faith in God for Girls – the section entitled “Information for Parents and Leaders” outlines how the activity days program should be run.
Also helpful are:
Teaching Guidebook – this is a handbook designed to outline the essentials of effective gospel teaching.
Teaching, No Greater Call – this is the “everything” guide for teaching – there are some excellent resources, including characteristics of age groups and what kinds of teaching are most effective, great suggestions for different kinds of teaching, and how to develop your own lessons.
LDS.org>Serving in the Church>Primary>Primary Activity Days>Using Faith in God in Activity Days – this page has a whole series of lessons on Activity Days. They are interactive, and there are some good examples of simple activities that can be adapted to a variety of topics. If you are looking for some training, this is an excellent place to start.
There’s not a lot to keep track of with activity days, but there are a couple of things I have found helpful.
- An updated list of girls, their birthdates, their phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses.
- An Attendance Record with space to record the activity – useful when figuring out which girls have completed which activities.
- A Spreadsheet or other means to keep track of which required activities the girls have completed.
- A general calendar for the year with the basic requirements that will be covered. I’ve included a sample of the calendar we used this year. Notice that there aren’t any details. We have changed things around as the year has gone on, but this has helped us to stay focused on what we hoped to accomplish this year.
- An agenda for Activity Days. We have our girls take turns conducting Activity Days, which I have explained in further detail here.
